Bartimeaus gave a salute, turned and walked outside. He aproached Dro'Sha and said "We have the green light, I have been ordered to assit you and your men" while taking off his robe to reveal his suit of mitheral armour. From his back he took his shield and attached it to his arm. "I am ready to move when you are" he said taking the arrowhead from his pocket and kissing it for luck.

Mer Headquarters

Amarie watched with amazement as Heceril responded to King Albath’s question like a petulant child. This Mer General had clearly stepped past the bounds of sanity some time ago. Heceril acted as if the King’s chivalrous behaviour made him a traitor, at one point stooping so low as to call his valued ally a “worm”. Clearly the stress of the challenge to his authority was too much for him, and the General started wheezing and coughing again. Perhaps he will die of a heart attack on the spot, she thought hopefully. She then berated herself for such a spiteful thought. Just because he lowers himself to act like an animal, I will not bring myself down to his level. The General’s childish tantrum was completed by his decision to send the Countess back to the dungeons. He called for the two jail guards, who entered shortly after and walked her from the room.

Since she was now unshackled and walking, Amarie realised that this moment was her best hope of escape. She had been unable to see anything when she had been so rudely carted here over the shoulder of one guard. But now she quickly surveyed her location. With a leap of hope, she realised that the house selected by the General for his headquarters was just a short distance from the Chapel. If she could get away from the guards and make her way there, she could access the secret escape tunnel. Another quick survey showed that there were no other guards in the immediate vicinity. As she rapidly considered her best strategy, she prayed for some distraction that would give her a moment in which to act.

Imperial City Palace
Emperors Quarters

It was getting close to evening now, and things have finally started to quiet down. Cocius quietly got out of bed and covered Elizabeth with a blanket. He put back on his clothing, walked over to his desk and sat down. He grabbed his pipe and stuffed it with tobacco before lighting it and taking several deep puffs; thankfully relieving him of stress. The General caught eye of an unopened letter sitting on his desk. With a steady hand he reached over and picked it up, opening it quietly as not to wake his fiancee.

He read it quickly, then once more with disbelief. "By the Nine, he actually did it."

Cocius was speechless and simply dropped the letter to the floor.

Dregan sat quietly in the corner of the Flowing Bowl Inn, mostly trying to prevent himself for vomiting the disgusting wine this place sells. He wiped his mouth and knocked his tankard over, spilling the remaining content. The same annoying twins have been running the place for a little more then three decades, and they haven't seemed to change one bit, at least since the last time Dregan visited Cyrodiil.

With the sounds of the siege going on outside of the city, Dregan was pretty much a freelancer at this point, since he hasn't been hired for a job in many days. No surprise to him, but its annoying that no one seems to appreciate his skills in stealth and assassinations. He practically puts the Dark Brotherhood to shame, more or less the Morag Tong.

The Agent got up from his seat and made his way out of the Inn, admiring the sunset as it was about to lighten the other sides of the world. He then slowly turned his gaze from it and made his way inside the city.

Ustol watched as Audentes quickly dodged from cover to cover until he got in eyesight of the castle and waited for him to come over. Ustol attempted to run from cover to cover as well but wasn't as swift and was clumsier. Eventually Ustol made it over.

"What's the plan?" Ustol asked out of breath.

Albath tried to keep his face straight as he nearly guffawed at Herceril's outlandish acts. "Perhaps I am blinded by my actions but don't you dare tell me to go back to my halls. I will stay in this city until it is relieved and even then I will probably lead an assault further inland."

The King turned away from Herceril and headed for the door, opening it and slamming it as he came out in a bout of anger. Unhitching his horse, Albath mounted it and rode as swiftly as he could to the harbor.

Audentes would have chuckled at Ustol's slightly clumsy abilities at sneaking would that have not triggered the realization of how hard this mission would be. With two trained professionals, this might be a cake walk. But with a novice...

"Well," he pondered for a moment, "I could always use him as a distraction while making a get away..." He paused before shaking his head.

Nah.

Ustol arrived shortly, trying to catch his breath, asking what the plan was. Audentes was just as curious to know what the correct plan was.

"Let us assess our situation," he began in a very neutral and mechanical tone. "It is obvious that Anvil is swarming with mer. We'll have to be on our guard. If we are discovered it will be quite a messy situation to get us and the countess out alive and well."

More like, when we are discovered...

Audentes paused, wishing the negative thought away from his mind.

"We will continue this arc, going to the back of the castle," he continued, speaking quickly and efficiently for he knew that they had precious little time. "We will have to swim a small distance to get in proximity to the castle. There is a balcony there, leading into the countess' quarters, from which -if she is not there- we will be able to get into the rest of the castle. To reach this balcony we'll have to help each other. You'll have to boost me up. From there, I can either pull you up, or you can wait there till I retrieve the countess. I'll leave the decision to you as you know your abilities more than I do."

He looked around from habit and paranoia of being watched before continuing. "Once inside, we'll first check her quarters. If she isn't there, then the dungeon. We are authorized to take out any enemy who is a liability to our quest, but if a target is eliminated, the body must be hidden. No point silencing someone only to have a patrol find the body and raise the alarm. We must also be prepared with the possibility that she is in neither of those places. In that case, our mission will become more difficult. We will have to search the city, hoping our presence goes unnoticed. I doubt disguises would help, but it might come to that as well."

He looked at Ustol confidently and smiled. "You got all that? So, will you come inside or wait by the balcony?"

Mer Headquarters

Heceril stared blankly at his desk of papers and swiped them off the table. The fury within him grew so much faster then he could control that he was starting to go off at his officers and kinsmen more often. The King had said some disrespectful things and was clearly blinded by his power and use of words. And to even think the foolish Altmer would ask what are his plans right in front of the enemy. Heceril might as well just walk over to General Flavius and tell him what he had in mind, that stupid Altmer.

Refilling his goblet of wine for the fourth time within twenty minutes, the alcohol consumption was not unfamiliar to his body. For he had been drinking ever since he arrived and took Anvil. Perhaps it was stress that drove him, maybe even the overconfidence he had over the entire situation. No matter what, though, he knew he would win this battle and he and his army would gradually take city after city until they reached the Capital. He might even get a promotion to Archmagistra of the Mer Armies. Now that is to die for.

Anvil
Main District

Dregan Mondil continued making his way closer and closer to the main gates and, for some reason, seemed to enjoy the sound of battle. It has been so long since he last heard the screams of soldiers dying and battle cries of those bloodthirsty brothers of his. Ah, those were the days indeed, and now they have finally returned.

Dregan took note of an Altmer riding fast past him towards the harbor, and from what it seems this Altmer was of noble blood and most likely a King or Count. Of course! he smiled to himself as the Mer rode by. That must be the King of Skywatch. He remembered being told by one of his employers of the King of Skywatch gathering his forces and sending them to reinforce Anvil. But it also seemed rather strange at the same time, for with General Heceril leading the Anvil Defense, all hope was against the Imperials trying to retake the city. They clearly had no clue who they were up against.

Lowering his head as the Altmer rode by, as to hide his face, he looked behind him and watched the Anvil Castle gates begin to close. And with a good glance, he saw a women - beaten and probably wounded - being dragged across the bridge into the Castle. Was I not told of an Imperial woman being held within Anvil? Dregan shook the thought from his head and continued walking towards the Main gates.

Anvil

Audentes and Ustol were making good progress so far and were, at the moment, discussing their plans to get into the Castle and save the Countess. And with such luck on their side, they are in clear sight of seeing the Countess being escorted by two armed guards across the Castle bridge. If they take their chances now and try to free her, the chances of an alarm raising will be against them. But, if they let her go they may never know where they may put her, even if its to her death.

Cyrodiil, Morrowind border

Within a dozen minutes of being informed of Cheydinhaals defenses by the Count, and who is leading them and his traits, Fadril seemed to have enough information to take the city with ease. He grabbed the Count on his shoulder and walked with him a short ways.

"Well, my good Count. You have proved yourself more then valuable to join us."

The Count smiled and patted the Dunmer on his back as well, "Why thank you, good friend. Don't forget your reward for taking the city. You will be more wealthy then the richest Imperial in the Capital."

"Of course. So, are you ready to join us?"

"Why of course!" The Count showed more excitement and gratitude then he ever has in years. He looked at the Dunmer with confident eyes and awaited his departure out of the power of Cocius and within good hands of the Mer, the true 'good guys.'

"Well dear Count, that skin of yours certainly isn't Dunmer. Why don't we fix you up a bit?"

The Counts smile turned to an almost complete frown at those words. And before he could say just one more thing a sword was shoved through his back.

Audentes had just finished his sentence when some movement caught his eye. From reflex, he ducked down behind a bush, dragging Ustol with him. He hushed the man in case he would yelp in surprise and peered through the bushes. What he saw made him smile. His target for recovery was in sight, accompanied by only two guards. Audentes pointed this out to Ustol.

"Look, I know we don't have strong intel while heading into this," he whispered quickly, already reaching for his crossbow, "but I doubt we'll get a better chance than this." He pulled back the string and a bolt sprung into place from the clip. "I'll try and take out the two guards, and we charge them. Whoever gets to the countess first grabs her -throw her over your shoulder if you have to- while the other covers the retreat."

Audentes took careful aim. His right hand was ready to pull the string back as soon as he launched the first. He didn't even break concentration when he spoke.

"Ready? Go!"

Here we go.

He let loose on the first bolt, quickly loading the second.

As the bolt went soaring threw the air, with skill and precession, nailed the guard holding the Countess in the lower leg, staggering the beast of a Mer and making him drop the Countess. Immediately the guards reacted, one began dragging the Countess by her leg towards the Castle while the other drew his bow and began firing back.

"Breach! Breach!" The guard dragging the Countess began yelling.

Audentes and Ustol will have a near impossibly time getting out if they don't silence the guards in time. They'll need to kill them fast.

Seeing no chance of a distraction, Amarie tried desperately to think of a way to get free of the two guards long enough to cast a spell. As the trio passed near the chapel, she feigned a stumble, throwing her weight against the smaller of the two guards. Her slight form meant that her efforts were in vain though, as the larger guard merely tightened his grip on her arm and hurried her along. He was now half dragging and half carrying her, bruising her arm terribly, and it took all her energy just to stay upright.

With growing despair she saw that they had reached the castle bridge. Once inside the castle, there would be guards everywhere and her chance to escape would be lost. And once back in the dungeon… she shivered at what that insane Mer General might do unhampered by an honorable witness such as King Albath. Bile rose in her throat at the thought of trying to resist his torture rather than give him information that would betray the Imperial troops.

Suddenly a bolt whizzed through the air and landed with a sickening thud in the leg of the guard who was carrying her. He staggered badly, and Amarie tumbled from his grasp. She put out one arm to break her fall, narrowly avoiding being knocked unconscious on the hard stones of the bridge. Her arm ached, and her whole side was badly grazed.

This was her chance to escape! But as she tried to stand and run, a guard grabbed her leg and started dragging her towards the castle, further injuring her already battered body. As he dragged her, he shouted, “Breach! Breach!”, trying to gain the attention of the guards in the castle still some distance away. Meanwhile the other guard had drawn his bow and started firing back at the attackers.

Trying to ignore the pain as her body was jostled and scraped along the stones, Amarie quickly spoke the incantation and motioned her hands to cast a Paralyze spell on the wretch who was dragging her along. It would last mere seconds, but perhaps it would be long enough for the attackers to deal with him before he attracted any attention. Twisting painfully to face him, she aimed the spell and released it directly at his chest.

Castle Bridge

The guard screamed for only an instant as the Countess paralyzed him with her spell. He began twitching vaguely on the ground but remained unsteady. His partner looked over to him and saw him lying dead and the Countess no longer in his clutches.

"Help! Man down! Breach!"

From the Castle walls, Bosmer archers heard the call and were organizing for an offense. Time as precious for the operatives and the Countess.

Anvil

Dregan heard commotion coming what seemed to be the Castle. Dark figures from the Castle walls began to move in formation as if to attack. The Dunmer quickly drew his Elven sword and ran over towards the gates. But just as he was about to run in to see what was wrong, Mer soldiers quickly barricaded the gate with wooden planks.

"What is wrong?" Dregan asked one of the soldiers.

"There appears to be a breach and we cant afford to let any Humans get in the city."

"Just open the gates and let me through, I can handle it!"

The soldier nodded and went back for the stairs leading up to the walls. Damn it Dregan thought as he began looking for options.

Audentes charged forward, still slightly in the cover of random bushes or rocks, firing and loading as he went. When he saw one of the guards fall, he concentrated on the one who was still standing. His thoughts turned grim at the prospect of hundreds of more soldiers arriving if they didn't get this done quickly.

If only I could get a bolt to land in that damned mer's mouth... That would silence him.

In closer proximity to the bridge, he created a hail of bolts on the standing mer, hoping he could kill him, or at least wound him enough to be able to concentrate afterward on the other once it stood back up. Whilst he did so he charged towards the bridge, pausing momentarily to prepare his net to entangle whoever would still be a threat once he arrived close to the countess.

OOC: Sorry for the lack of a post.

IC: Fadril pulled the sword out of the corpse and let the body hit the ground. He sheathed his blade, letting the human blood stay on it. It was the first blood he had spilled in the invasion of Cyrodiil. Not even looking at the body of the Count again, he stepped over it and mounted his horse once more. Returning to his position at the front of the column, the army automatically resumed it's march towards the city. They encountered no more "Counts" along the way.

When the pointed tip of Cheydinhal's chapel came into sight, Fadril grew anxious, eager for more human blood. Within minutes, the walls were visible, with the army halted just before just before the clearing at the edge of the woods. From the Count's information, there were two gates. The General debated which gate to assault, but his mind drifted to what to do with the prisoners he would undoubtedly take. The Dunmer had known no defeat during their assault of Skyrim, and he wouldn't accept any less during the conquering of the Imperials.

Cheydinhaal Castle

A squire ran to General Leonde Curio's quarters and quickly requested an audience. Moments later Leonde came out and asked what was the situation.

"Mi lord, the Mer army is within minutes away from the city! They might even be here now!"

"Hold your tongue, you fool. I know all too well the situation and I'll take care of it. Now get back to your post and keep me updated of their movements and formations."

The squire darted out of the room like a rat, and once again Leonde was now alone with his mind. He had to think over thoroughly what to do, and knowing that without doubt the Count would of tried to tell the Mer - that is if he even reached them - he would be at a disadvantage. He quickly made his way to the Castle walls and looked over towards the forest.

They are out there, he thought grasping the wall firmly. It was a good thing that Leonde changed the formations of his troops after the Count departed, just in case the Mer Commander did know what to expect. Leonde also managed to plant a couple traps out in the fields and forest, just for when the Mer decided to attack they'd be losing numbers before even reaching the walls.

The battle advantage was so far on his side, for now..

Castle Bridge

The hastily cast paralyze spell succeeded and the guard fell to the ground, releasing the Countess’ leg. But not before screaming once again, which caused the second guard to turn around. Seeing his comrade fallen, he too started yelling, "Help! Man down! Breach!" Surely someone must have heard by now. Time was running out.

Scrambling to her hands and knees, Amarie looked around frantically. She could not see any reinforcements yet, but it would not be long. Meanwhile, the attackers were relentless. Bolts flew in close succession at the guard who had just called out. Surely he must fall soon! But the paralyzed guard was already twitching, so he would probably be up again in moments. Which gave her an idea! She carefully readied the complex spell, concentrating so fully that the sounds of battle dwindled to a mere whisper. With her target still recovering from paralysis, there was a good chance her spell could overcome any resistance he might have.

Amarie’s hands moved in a complex motion as she uttered the incantation and then aimed at the recovering guard. If it was successful, the Command spell would mean that her target would attack his comrade – forcing him to defend himself. This should give her the opening she needed to run back across the bridge to safety. If I can still run that is, she thought desperately.
